OMG…These Celebrities’ Phone Numbers Got Leaked!

Even the most private celebrities with high end security teams circling their every move aren’t immune to the occasional slip up (even if it’s not their fault) in which their phone numbers get leaked. These days, a tiny misstep can go viral in seconds and a leaked phone number can lead to endless pranks, random texts, and nonstop calls (or worse).
While fans might get a bit of a thrill at the thought of having direct access to their favourite star, for celebrities, the reality is that it’s more of a nightmare than a dream come true.
Celebrities Whose Phone Numbers Were Leaked
Justin Bieber
In 2018, pop sensation Justin Bieber accidentally shared his phone number on Twitter. It was unclear whether it was him or a hacker but, regardless, fans relentlessly texted and called a number they believed was his when the phone number was leaked.
Cardi B
Cardi B had her phone number leaked during a heated feud with Nicki Minaj on social media. The leak reportedly led to a barrage of harassing calls from Nicki Minaj fans as well as messages from her own fans and trolls alike.
Harry Styles
Beloved pop icon Harry Styles had his phone number exposed back in 2016 following the height of 1 Direction fame, which led to thousands of calls and messages from fans eager to connect. In a funny twist the number actually belonged to someone else, who, unfortunately, was forced to deal with the fallout and desperately try to convince fans that he was not, in fact, Harry.
Eminem
Eminem cheekily posted a phone number during COVID lockdown that encouraged fans to text him. The number led to an interactive experience, turning what might have seemed like a disaster to some but was actually a clever publicity stunt used to promote upcoming concerts.
How Do Celebrities’ Phone Numbers Get Leaked?
While it’s sometimes malicious and sometimes just carelessness, here are a few of the scenarios in which a celebrity’s phone number was leaked:
Social Media Mishaps
Even celebrities with high rate PR teams aren’t immune to accidents on social media. Maybe it’s accidentally sharing phone numbers in videos or screenshots, or being deliberately doxxed by trolls, it’s not surprising that social media is one of the leading sources of leaks.
Hacking
Well-versed, savvy hackers have been known to breach celebrities’ online accounts, social media profiles or even their phones on the hunt for contact lists and other sensitive information. Naturally, celebrities are prime targets because of their wealth or attention-grabbing value of such leaks.
Feuds
Celebrity feuds are often public feuds and individuals have been known to get vindictive in the heat of an argument. It might not happen often but these intentional leaks can cause more harm by stirring up unnecessary drama and crossing a boundary of privacy for the victim.
Human Error
We all make mistakes and accidental leaks are, of course, common. Assistants, friends, or family members might inadvertently reveal a phone number in the background of a photo or during a live stream—the issue is that once it’s posted, there’s little to be done to remedy the situation.
If Harry or Cardi had been using Hushed, their phone number leak might not have been such a big deal. Even a regular person can take this lesson from the stars: protect your privacy now. Don’t wait until your number is leaked to take action!
