Free Anonymous Call: How to Make One

So, you’ve been needing to make a free anonymous call but you’re not sure where to start. Maybe you’re planning a surprise party or verifying a lead on a job. No matter the reason, you might have already found that there are a few ways to hide your identity when making a phone call.

If that’s the case, you’ve likely also discovered that not all of these methods are foolproof (or sanitary…hello public payphones). Here are a few options that may or may not work for your free anonymous call.

Old-School Caller ID Blocking

If you’ve been around the block (so to speak), you’ll likely be familiar with caller ID blocking through *69. Dialling *69 at the beginning of your phone number purportedly results in your number appearing as “private” or “blocked” on the recipient’s display.

Why not?

While *67 might work on some attempts, it’s far from reliable:

  • Some carriers have restrictions that do not allow *67 calls. This is especially the case for toll-free numbers or, understandably, for emergency services.
  • Many people are leery of unknown numbers and employ spam filters or apps that block all calls that are received from unknown numbers.
  • Even if it works to enable your free anonymous call, your carrier still maintains a record so it’s not truly anonymous and untraceable.

Use a Public Phone

While they’re more of a nostalgic photo op these days, public payphones have long been a way to make a call without linking at all to your personal home number. You can still find public payphones in airports or bus terminals and in larger urban centres.

Why not?

  • We’re in a post-COVID world and everyone is a little more aware these days about just how many germs we come in contact with. Let’s face it—payphones have never been the most hygienic option.
  • Often located in noisy, busy areas, there are virtually no options for privacy if you need to make a personal call or discuss anything of a sensitive nature
  • Good luck finding one.

A Temporary Online Number

The easiest, cleanest, and most reliable option to make a free anonymous call is with a temporary online number using Hushed. The Hushed app provides a temporary number for private calls and texts, making it an easy choice to top the list.

Why Hushed?

  • Start with a free 3 day trial.
  • Calls with Hushed are completely private and truly anonymous.
  • Customize your plan with voicemail, call forwarding, and auto-reply for text messages.
  • Only your own germs to worry about (but please still wash your hands regularly)!
  • Affordable and flexible.

Stay Anonymous and Stay Mindful

Whether you’re simply worried about protecting your privacy or scheming with friends and keeping a sweet surprise under wraps, anonymity is more complicated than ever in our hyper-connected reality.

With Hushed, you can communicate anonymously, for an affordable, no-commitment cost, and know that your private information remains private. Remember though, anonymity isn’t a free pass to harassment and pranking. Laws may vary by country and harassment is never okay. Use your anonymity wisely and with caution.
